I’m excited to announce the launch of Id8TE — a new research and education company, founded to map the scientific benefits of mindful meditation to improvements in leadership, innovation, engagement, communication and productivity.
It’s been ten years since I launched the Human Capital Institute (HCI), to create a standard framework for evolving a century of administrative human resources, into strategic human capital principles and practices.
Over the past decade, HCI’s ideas have transformed C-level perspectives and the HR function itself. The discipline of strategic talent management has entered the mainstream, and is now embraced by organizations and institutions worldwide. HCI now offers research, conferences and certification programs in an array of strategic HR and leadership disciplines, and serves members in over 170 countries.
Through HCI, I’ve come to understand that human capital is a powerful starting point, but that transformation requires people (at all levels) who are healthy, self-aware and emotionally intelligent. We must clear the toxicity from our workplace, re-engage our workforce and provide authentic, compassionate leadership, if we aim to build strong, innovative and sustainable organizations in the new-new economy.
Looking out another decade, I believe that organizations will fully realize the latent mental power in their workforce, and insist on education that builds concentration, attention and awareness; unlocks creativity and divergent thinking; improves critical thinking and decision making; and increases motivation and self-discipline. Those attributes are largely undeveloped or wasting through dis-engagement today – yet they are the baseline skills needed to compete in an era of disruption and disintermediation.
Over 18 months of intensive research and personal enquiry, I’ve come to understand that mindful meditation is an incredibly powerful platform for cognitive and emotional development. It unlocks reason and facilitates calm, logical decision-making. It reduces distraction, burnout, and workplace toxicity, while it builds stronger leaders, enables innovation, re-engages workers and scales productivity.
Mindfulness is poised to enter the education and business mainstream, as two decades of research have confirmed its impact on health and wellness, mental performance and emotional fitness. It is a transformative capability for leaders, and promises to be a foundational construct for solving some of the largest, most intractable business problems that organizations are grappling with today.
Our mission at Id8TE is to educate the enterprise, and accelerate the adoption of mindfulness as an intervention for health and wellness, and as a platform for individual and leadership performance.
Mindfulness is a superpower that literally changes the brain. It promises increased well-being, deeper relationships, more effective leadership and a more compassionate and productive workplace. It belongs at the heart of our public education system, our business schools, and management science.
I hope you’ll investigate it yourself, and join us as we move forward.
